Inspired by a real girl, a real fence, and a phrase that caught on.
The Story
Some mornings, we’d look outside and find our daughter balanced on top of our chain-link fence, one hand holding a branch of the orchid tree to keep herself steady, as if the morning were hers to explore. She’s also known for telling random people, “Have a lovely day.” Cashiers. Neighbors. Strangers in line.
It’s contagious. I started saying it to people at work, and it turns out most people don’t hear it nearly often enough.
The Design
Soft watercolor art shows a girl with windswept strawberry-blonde curls, a pink floral dress, and brown lace-up boots, walking along the top rail of a chain-link fence with her arms out wide. In one hand she holds a branch of pink orchid-tree blossoms, petals drifting behind her. “Have a lovely day.” floats above in flowing script, with Psalm 118:24 beneath.
Consider This
“This is the day that the LORD has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.”
— Psalm 118:24 (BSB)
Most of us know this verse as a cheerful morning reminder. But look at the psalm around it. Just before it comes a line Jesus later quoted about Himself: the stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone. “This is the day” isn’t about a sunny forecast. It’s about the day God turned rejection into rescue.
That’s why joy is possible even on ordinary or hard days. We don’t rejoice because the day is perfect. We rejoice because of who made it, and what He has done. And sometimes joy is as simple as climbing a fence to see a little farther, or telling a stranger to have a lovely day.
Consider: Who could use a “have a lovely day” from you today?
A meaningful gift for daughters, moms, sisters, and joyful souls.
For lovely days, difficult days, and all the ordinary days God gives us.
